Project Plan Print E-mail
designA project plan is an important document at this stage of the technology life cycle. It should be a fairly high level document at this point with additional details to be supplied as project(s) advance forward. Here's what you should expect in a project plan:
  • Major milestones and activities: The project plan will identify the major milestones, events, deadlines, task work items, dependencies, contraints and so on to provide a good understanding of overall project duration and complexity.
  • Assigned Resources: The project plan will identify the resource requirements, both internal staff time and outsourced external resources such as consultants. Tasks are assigned to the various resources and work schedules.
  • Preliminary costs and time budgets: The project plan will identify costs of resources and start the foundation for developing preliminary cost and time budgets prior to acquistion cost proposals are received.

By maintaining a project plan, everyone associated with the project can follow the progress and understand the their contribution to the big picture. Project managers can share information with project sponsors and other key personnel.
